Πολύ σύντομα για να καλέσουμε κάποιον με το κινητό μας τηλέφωνο δεν θα χρειάζεται να κάνουμε τίποτε περισσότερο από απλά να το σκεφτούμε! Αμερικανοί ερευνητές ανέπτυξαν μια επαναστατική τεχνολογία η οποία επιτρέπει στον κάτοχο ενός κινητού τηλεφώνου να του δίνει νοητικές εντολές. Μοιάζει με σκηνή βγαλμένη από ταινία επιστημονικής φαντασίας αλλά στην φωτογραφία ερευνητής του Πανεπιστημίου της Καλιφόρνια φορώντας μια ειδικά σχεδιασμένη ταινία που τοποθετείται στο κεφάλι στέλνει νοητικές εντολές σε ένα κινητό τηλέφωνο Nokia N73.

To σύστημα αποτελείται από την ταινία η οποία περιέχει ηλεκτρόδια και μια συσκευή τεχνολογίας Bluetooth. Η ταινία στην ουσία κάνει στον χρήστη ένα είδος ηλεκτροεγκεφαλογραφήματος ( είναι γνωστό με τα αρχικά EEG) εντοπίζοντας και αποκωδικοποιώντας τα ηλεκτρικά σήματα που παράγει ο εγκέφαλος του. Στη συνέχεια η συσκευή Bluetooth μεταφέρει στο κινητό τηλέφωνο τις εντολές του. Προς το παρόν το σύστημα λειτουργεί με απόλυτη ακρίβεια μόνο σε μια εφαρμογή, την κλήση αριθμών, αλλά αν συνεχιστεί η ερευνητική προσπάθεια πιθανότατα το εύρος των εφαρμογών θα αυξηθεί.  Η ολοκλήρωση της έρευνας και την μεθόδου θα αποτελέσει πολύ σημαντικό βοήθημα για ανθρώπους με κινητικά προβλήματα αλλά και για όσους χρειάζεται να χρησιμοποιούν το κινητό τους τηλέφωνο ενώ οι συνθήκες εργασίας τους απαιτούν να είναι τα χέρια τους ελεύθερα και γενικά να έχουν απόλυτη ελευθερία κινήσεων.
